Retro Toy Chest Day 11 - Adventure People

The Adventure People series of toys was introduced in 1975 by Fisher Price. The series, aimed at older children, included 34 play sets devoted to scuba diving, mountain climbing, space exploration, motor biking, parachuting and other adventurous pursuits. The line also included a few Astronauts and aliens for adventures in outer space.

I had a few sets as a kid (still have my Safari Truck packed away somewhere). Last year, I made a custom blue faced alien pilot (from the Firestar I) using a 25th Deep Six body. Even though that body is not very articulated, it fits in well with my custom Adventure People which tend to made from less detailed parts. I had 2 more spare 25th Deep Six figures, so I set about making more astronauts.

I knew I wanted to make Brainoid since he is so distinctive. I had a Krang sitting in my fodder box and with a few cuts, he fit easily enough inside the bubble.

Parts:
Head: TMNT Krang (modified)
Torso, arms, legs: 25th Deep Six
Right Hand: 25th BATS

For the Astronaut, the Adventure People line had several similar ones to choose from. I went with the most recognizable.

Parts:
Head: 25th Steeler
Torso, arms, legs: 25th Deep Six

TV Action News Van w. Kirk by Oreobuilder

I had a few sets as a kid (still have my Safari Truck packed away somewhere). Since I built to homage the Safari Expedition in 2015, I figured I would keep the theme going with the TV Action News Van (based on set 309).

As with all my previous Adventure People figures, I tried to keep the ''simple'' look and feel of the original figures. To do this, I use mostly 25th parts. These have slightly less sculpted detail than the more modern bank. At the same time, 25th parts have a decent range of motion. The paint colors mimic the original figures as well.

I worked on recipes to make Jeff (the boss/editor) and Carol (reporter), but I did not like anything that I came up with. I decided to skip them until I can figure out the right parts. Meantime, in the spirit of Retro Toy Chest, I'm mixing my themes. April O'Neil, from TMNT, is freelancing for the Adventure People Network News.
